Winter’s First Snow Storm Hits Block Island!

The streets were quiet today as most locals remained warm in their homes with no real reason to risk braving the slippery roads. The sound of an occasional snow plow and the wind whipping off the ocean was what could be heard on this desolate little speck in the sea.

Some did venture out to purchase supplies from the Block Island Grocery or to get a glimpse of the spectacular scenery covered in a white snowy blanket. Others seeking adventure managed to make it to the Spring House for some sledding and social interaction.

It was hard to measure the amount of snow that fell due to the drifting from high winds. Some drifts measured three or four feet and other spots had just an icy dusting with the green grass still poking through.

Today, summer felt like ages ago and although we love the warm sunny beach days it’s nice to have both ends of the spectrum to enjoy.

Happy Holidays from Block Island!
